We are a Club that was originally founded in 2020, initially as a family passion project. Newlane was the brainchild of the Fitzsimons family; brothers, sons and nephews coming together to make a mark in the local community. It was an escape from the COVID-19 virus, members of the local community were able to use sport as a social outlet.
From our humble beginnings as one team, that team went on to win the
United Churches Football League (UCFL) in 2022, making our mark. This was a shock to the team at the time, who did not believe they were even in a position to be a threat in the league. Since then, alongside the same UCFL team, we have expanded to play in the
Leinster Senior League (LSL), a highly respectable league within Ireland.
in 2024, we established our flagship Women's team, with around 30 local female players involved that travel from all over Dublin. We play in both the
Eastern Women's Soccer League (summer), and the LSL winter league. With the growing popularity of women’s football, we deemed it essential that we would provide a team for local women in our community, as the opportunities in west Dublin are sparse.
Our club has significant links with charities such as
Jigsaw Youth Mental Health (logo displayed prominently on our women’s home jersey), and are hoping to link up with LGBTQ+ & equality charities. As a representation that we are a club for all, our women’s jersey also displays the pride flag upon the sleeve.
Established with the vision of promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal development, the club offers a range of opportunities for individuals of all ages and skill levels. The male and female teams at Newlane FC provide a platform for players to hone their skills, compete at various levels, and build lasting friendships. Training sessions are tailored to develop not only technical abilities but also tactical awareness, physical fitness, and mental resilience.
